Registered Occupational Therapist (RASP, COTBC, CAOT)

Rubika Subramaniam, BSc. Bio, MScOT

Rubika graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, intending to pursue a career in the healthcare field. She then completed her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

After moving back to Vancouver, she split her time working in pediatric OT and with adult individuals with Musculoskeletal (MSK) issues, cognitive impairments (e.g. concussion), and psychosocial symptoms.

She founded Purple Crayon Therapy to provide a higher level of care for the children she worked with.

Frequently asked questions

  • Yes, OTs are required to be registered nationally and provincially with regulating bodies of Occupational Therapy. In BC, all OTs must be registered with the Registry of Autism Service Providers (RASP) to provide services for children under 6 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). To use autism funding to pay for services, you need to choose service providers from the RASP list.

  • In the past occupational therapists (OTs) in Canada required a bachelor's degree to work as a therapist. Nowadays, OTs must complete a Master of Science degree in rigorous OT programs with high entrance requirements. Their education includes human anatomy, neuroanatomy, and psychology. Plus, most OTs continue education through courses for specialties within Occupational Therapy.
